The Signs that Follow Believers
Scripture Reading: Mark 16:16–18
“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover,” Mark 16:17–18.
The Signs that Follow Believers
Father, we thank you for the power and the blessings that are in the name of Jesus. We thank you because when Jesus comes the blind will see, the lame will walk, the deaf will hear, the dead will be raised, and the gospel will be preached to the poor. Blessed is he who shall not be offended or doubtful of the reality that Jesus has come.
The signs promised in today’s Scripture Reading should manifest in the lives of believers who truly believe Jesus. We must take His name seriously and speak it with power. When we believe and call on Jesus’ name, instead of analyzing devils, we will be able to cast out devils. Believers are able to speak to the unclean spirit, to the devils in the environment, and say, “In the name of Jesus, come out of that life.” The Bible says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe,” Mark 16:17. The manifestation of our belief in the reality of the power that is in the name of Jesus is that we will be able to cast out devils in His name.
The Bible says when we believe in Jesus, we will speak with new tongues. Speaking with new tongues is the spiritual language that is expressed not by our soulish blabbering, but by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We are to speak with new tongues in the spiritual and in the physical. Speaking with new tongues in the physical manifests in the new things our tongue utters. If you used to utter negatives, never seeing good in anyone or in any situation, when Jesus comes into your life and you truly believe in Him, you will begin to utter positives.
Your tongue will become the pen of a ready writer; your heart and voice will begin to declare good things. This is the blessing of God. He wants us to speak the Word. We use our tongues in the physical more than we use them in the spiritual; therefore if we begin to speak with new tongues in the physical, it will manifest in the spiritual. What you say in the physical indicates what is being said in your spiritual life.
The Bible says when you believe in Jesus, you will take up serpents. Sadly, there are many serpents in the world and in the church today. The serpentine spirit is operating so much more in the gathering of believers today, and we need Christians who will believe Jesus enough to take up serpents. Many have become principalities and operators of evil in their churches and ministries, but nobody touches them because Christians do not believe Jesus enough to take up serpents.
But when we believe, we will cast out devils, speak with new tongues, and take up serpents. The Bible says beyond taking up serpents, if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you. The serpent sometimes releases poisons in the physical and in the spiritual. But I have good news for you, if you are ready to believe Jesus at this level. If evildoers connive to poison you because you are taking them on, this poison will not hurt you. Jesus, by His shed blood, is the antidote to any deadly thing that is sent your way.
The Bible also says we shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. This is possible when our faith in Jesus is strong. This is possible when we believe in Jesus who is our Saviour, who has the name that is above every names.
Many believe in men, but men will fail because the nature of man is to fail. Jesus will never deceive or fail us. He says, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned,” Mark 16:16. The body of Christ needs people who will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who will take a chance and be vulnerable to Jesus, who will say, “I want to jump out on the wings of faith and let His everlasting arms catch me. I believe Jesus now and want to cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents and believe that no poison will hurt me; lay hands on the sick and have them recover.”
Prayer Points:
Father, I pray that all who believe will begin to cast out devils and speak with new tongues. I pray that every believer will understand that having Jesus within is the antidote to any deadly poison of the enemy. I speak to that one who has been quietly poisoned. I speak the antidote of the blood of Jesus into your body, into your soul, and into your spirit. Poisons come not only in the body but also in the spirit and in the soul. If you have been so poisoned that you are almost lifeless, today, I speak the life of Jesus to you; for the Word of God says that if you take any deadly thing it will not hurt you. Let the Word of God work in your life. Begin to operate in the realm of believers and let the signs that should follow believers manifest in your life from today forward, in Jesus’ name.
