Trust God
Scripture Reading: Daniel 3:16–18
“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
Trust God
Father God, we need the grace to trust you more. We give you glory and honour. We adore you. We have heard so many experiences of your faithfulness. Lord, in your mercy, pour into our spirits the grace to trust you.
Christians have heard many stories and had many experiences of God’s faithfulness. Yet, the trials of life make it difficult to trust God. Do you know that God releases blessings to those who trust Him? We trust God not only because He is trustworthy, but also because He delights in acts of trust by His children.
Let us examine two incidences where His children trusted God. In the book of Daniel, we find Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego rebelling against the king by refusing to worship his gods. The king grew furious and sentenced them to be thrown into the fire. But the three men said they believed that God was able to deliver them from the fire, and if He decided not to deliver them, they would still not worship false gods. The proclamation of trust in God excited our Lord. God was so pleased that He manifested His Son, Jesus Christ, before His appointed time in the New Testament. King Nebuchadnezzar himself saw Jesus in the fire with the men and said, “We threw three men into the fire but now I see a fourth man in the fire with them whose form is as the form of the Son of God,” Daniel 3. Trusting and being committed to God caused God to release Jesus to them in the fire.
Many of us are walking through the fires of life and need to trust God more so that Jesus can manifest in the midst of those fires. The spirit of doubt still oppresses at times, although we know that God is with us and in us. I pray that God will give us the grace to trust in Him. Noah also exhibited tremendous trust in God by building an ark in a dry place. “And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him… In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights,” Genesis 7:5, 11–12.
The flood came but it did not drown the man who trusted God: Noah and his family were saved. Not only were they saved, but God released blessings into Noah’s life when Noah showed great trust in God by building and entering the ark, but also disembarking from it when God commanded and sacrificing burnt offerings to thank God for His faithfulness.
We must strive to trust God in the same way as Noah, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Prayer Points:
The first step to trusting God is placing your faith in Jesus’ atonement for your sins. If you have never done so, pray with me now, “Dear Lord Jesus, I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. I confess and forsake my sins. Cleanse me from my sins with your blood. Write my name in the book of life.”
Father God, you have always been faithful to your people. Cancel all doubts we may have and give us the grace to trust you more completely so that we will get the blessings of trusting you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
