Fragrances
Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:15–19
“But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God,” Philippians 4:18.
Fragrances
Father God, we thank you, we give you glory and honour, and offer to you great gratitude for all you have done, are doing, and will do. Holy Father, we thank you for salvation, deliverance, protection, provision, and for breakthrough. We thank you for who you are and what you are to us.
The Apostle Paul writes, “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account,” Philippians 4:15–17. Paul says the things that were sent smelled sweet because they were acceptable and well pleasing sacrifices to God, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:19.
Let us meditate on the topic of fragrances. Some of us are noted for the perfumes we wear. When we arrive or if we have been in a place, someone might recognize our fragrance and say we have been there. We all have a physical fragrance, but we also have a spiritual fragrance. I have mentioned many times that everything in the physical has its origin in the spiritual, which we do not see. What fragrance do you wear in the presence of God? I pray that your fragrance will be the fragrance of blessedness.
In Genesis 27:27, Isaac was blessing Jacob and said, “See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed.” This means that your fragrance is very important. Is your fragrance a sweet smell or does it offend? I pray that, as Paul said, our odour will be a sweet smell, an acceptable sacrifice, and pleasing to God. How do we wear a sweet fragrance before God? How do we get into that place where we receive the fragrance of blessedness? The first way is to cover yourself with the blood of Jesus. The second way is to develop an attitude of worship: worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth honours God. When you worship, you bring the fragrance of worship to the presence of God.
The fragrance of worship will bring a fragrance of blessedness. God does not need anything from anyone; He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Many Christians today find it difficult to tithe by paying ten percent of what they earn into the Kingdom of God. Tithing is for God’s sake, not for man or any organization, but for establishing the relationship of a giving covenant with God. You need to build a foundation of giving your offerings, resources, time, work, talent, and gifting. When you offer to God, it brings into your life a fragrance of blessedness. The fragrance of blessedness comes upon us through the blood of Jesus, worshipping God, offering to God, and from an attitude of gratitude.
Why are so many of us ungrateful? We take for granted the things God does for us everyday: a house to live in, food to eat, families to enjoy. I pray that God will give you the grace to appreciate and say thank you to God for everything in your past, present, and future. Develop an attitude of gratitude and the fragrance of blessedness will be your portion.
God does not need anything from you but He wants your time so that he can multiply your time. He wants your resources so that He can multiply your resources. He wants your prayers so that He can multiply your answers. He wants you to give to Him in every dimension so that He can multiply every dimension to you. I pray that your offerings to God will be an odour, a fragrance of a sweet smell, an acceptable sacrifice that is well pleasing to God, because you were created to give Him pleasure.
Beloved, wear worship, apply the blood of Jesus, offer to God gratitude, and see your fragrance improve. When you arrive, people will start smiling at you because you have a sweet spiritual fragrance. May the favour and fragrance of God be your portion in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Points:
If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, it is not possible to have a sweet smell, a blessed fragrance. Offer your life to Jesus now by praying, “Dear Lord Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life and give me the fragrance of blessedness in Jesus’ name.”
