The Voice of the Lord
Scripture Reading: Psalm 29
“The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty,” Psalm 29:4.
The Voice of the Lord
Father, we thank you because only in you can we wax greater each day. We glorify your holy name because eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man what you have purposed for your own, but Lord you are revealing it by your Spirit. Lord we give you glory and honour; we adore you. Give us the grace to know you better, to hear you, to understand your voice, and to act on your directives in Jesus’ name.
The powerful voice of God is revealed in Psalm 29: “Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn,” Psalm 29:1–6.
We all long to hear the voice of the Lord, to identify His voice. He says my sheep hear my voice and they follow and another’s they will not follow, John 10:4-5. As we study the voice of the Lord, I want to make a few things clear by the revelation of Scripture.
When the Bible says the voice of the Lord is upon the waters it means that no matter what direction your life is flowing you can still hear His voice. When there is affliction, His voice is upon it. When there is an abundance of blessings, His voice is upon them. When there is desperation or consolation, His voice is there. No matter what you are going through in your life, if you take time to listen, you will hear His voice. Psalm 29:4 says the voice of the Lord is powerful. The anointing that comes through His Word is what gives His voice its power.
Because you are His child and you hear His voice, when you hear a message that has no anointing, you just hear a person speaking. But at times the same person will speak and the voice will come through with the power of God. You recognize that this is no longer a person talking; the person is just a messenger speaking forth the voice of the Lord.
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty; it breaks the cedars. When God speaks, He breaks open sealed doors. Psalm 29:7 says the voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. When God speaks, even fire stands apart. In the physical sense when we see fire raging, we may use fire-fighting equipment to douse the flames, but the voice of the Lord divides the fire and extinguishes it. He controls the flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness, Psalm 29:8. No matter how bewildered you are, no matter how dry, how alone, how empty things seem to be, the voice of the Lord can shake things up and make them work for your good. The Bible says, “The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests; and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory, verse 9.
The voice of the Lord is what you and I should desire today. The voice of the Lord can speak terror into the camp of the enemy. The voice of the Lord will come with encouragement to those who need encouragement today. The voice of the Lord will devour the fire that is burning up your life. God has a way of doing things through His voice. When the voice of God comes through, the employer who fired you will rehire you; the mouth that ran you down will begin to praise you.
When the voice of God speaks, your wilderness experience will come to an end because He will shake things up in your favour.
Pray now and ask the voice of the Lord to move upon the waters of your life. Lord, let the glory thunder upon the waters of our lives and cause the enemy to flee in the name of Jesus. Lord, use your powerful voice to speak to our oppressors. Use your powerful and majestic voice to issue decrees in our favour. Beloved, pray for yourself now and ask the Lord to speak for you, speak to you, and move on your behalf in the name of Jesus. Today, your enemy will hear the voice of the Lord in judgment and His decree in your favour in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer Points:
I pray Lord that in your mercy you will use your voice to favour your children. You cannot experience the blessings of His voice except you are in Him. If you have never given your life to Jesus, pray, “Dear Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. I am responding to the voice of the Lord who is calling me.
Lord Jesus, come into my life. Give me the born–again experience and write my name in the book of life.” Amen.
