Dan: The Judgment of God
Father God we thank you for the power that is in the blood of Jesus. The power that will never ever err, that is cleansing, has cleansed, and will continue to cleanse. Thank you for the power that is in the blood that triumphs over the punishment that comes through our judgment for sin. Lord we thank you for you are our Judge.
Genesis 30:6 says that Rachel had a son she named Dan, which essentially means “judge.” When Rachel grappled with the dark room of barrenness and watched her sister desiring what she had, desiring Jacob, she was in anguish and desired what her sister was producing. “And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb? And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in upon her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her. And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son,” Genesis 30:1–5. Rachel then named the child Dan, or “judge.”
In life, nobody has everything. If you look at these sisters, Leah and Rachel, one is crying for attention, while the other has too much attention but does not have what the one who does not have attention has. And she wanted God to come and judge the situation. Who was at fault? Jacob met Rachel first and planned to marry her. But on their wedding day, Rachel’s father smuggled his elder daughter, Leah in, and of course the hatred that Jacob had for Leah provoked God’s compassion and productivity. This caused Rachel to cry and say I also need a child and when that child came she named him God’s judgment; his name was Dan.
Is there someone reading this who needs a Dan in their life? Do you need God to intervene in your situation, to manifest the oil of Dan, the judgment of God because, through no fault of yours, circumstances have put you in a difficult place? Are you crying out in your heart that you need a Dan? Today, I say to you that God who provided a Dan for Rachel is ready to provide for you if you are willing to connect with Him and praise Him. As long as you can say to Him, Lord I am sure you are hearing my problems, and feeling my pain, please come and judge. For that one who needs God to intervene, like Rachel, I am saying to you today to call on the living God to come and judge. When you do, He will manifest as Dan in your situation.
The names of the children of Jacob, the children of Israel are symbolic and they are beautiful for every situation because they are names brought out from the travail and experiences of the children of God and God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I know someone reading this today needs God to come and judge their case, needs God to come with the oil of Dan, to bring a change of circumstance, to bring a solution to the problem. To that one, today, I say, God who is the Ancient of Days is ready. He answered Rachel through Dan and He will answer you today.
There are many whose barrenness has caused them to be bitter and to be envious of others. I pray today that you will understand that envy is not the answer. Call on God to come and judge your circumstance, to bring for you what is suitable. God who brought Dan into Rachel’s life will bring you Dan in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Points:
How will God be invited to judge? How can He come in to help? He comes in when you let him in by opening the door of your heart to Him. If you have not given your life to Jesus, pray with me now, “Dear Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. Come into my heart and give me the experience of being a child, a son of God. O Lord, I ask you to judge my circumstances in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
