Blessed Forever

Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 17:18–27
“Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed for ever,” 1 Chronicles 17:27.

Blessed Forever

Father God we thank you because you are our Everlasting Father. You will never die. You are ever-present, ever-loving, ever- knowing, ever- caring, and ever-providing. You are the Ancient of Days and have never failed, never changed. We give you all glory and honour. Lord, give us the grace of gratitude in Jesus’ name.

“What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. O Lord, for thy servant’s sake and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness in making known all these great things. O Lord, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt.

For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Lord, becamest their God,” 1 Chronicles 17:18–22.

David is responding to a prophetic message. At the beginning of 1 Chronicles 17, David analyzed where he was living. He was living in a house of cedar but said the ark of the covenant of the Lord God Almighty was under curtains and he wanted to build a house for God. Nathan, the prophet of God, encouraged him to do all that was in his heart because God was with him. When God is with you, you are encouraged to do all that is in your heart because with God all things are possible. However, when you try to do all that is in your heart and you are away from God, it cannot happen. The power that brings possibility to reality is the power that is in the presence of God. But that night the prophet got another word from the Lord saying, Go tell David not to build me a house, that David’s sons will build the house and God will establish His throne there, 1 Chronicles 17:4, 11–12.

If we are planning to build a house for God and the prophet says to go build it and he returns tomorrow and says God says you should not build it, that your sons will build it, some will believe this prophet does not hear from God. We will go ahead and build. But David had a heart large enough to thank God that He not only remembered him, but also remembered his children by entrusting to them with such a significant assignment. “Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, the Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee. For thou, O my God, has told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee. And now, Lord, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed for ever,” 1 Chronicles 17:24–27.

The one who has thankfulness will be blessed forever. Many of us have blessings in the storehouse of heaven, but the devil delays our blessings by making us feel we deserve what we have actually received by grace. What are you enjoying today that you did not get by the mercy of God?

I pray that God will give us the grace to be grateful which can only come when we humble ourselves. We humble ourselves by remembering from whence God has brought us. The people who will be blessed are those who acknowledge that everything they have is by the grace of God; who have divorced pride and embraced humility. The people who will be blessed are those who look up, not around; those who are connected to the dispensation of grace; for grace gives to you the good you have not earned but received by the grace and dispensation of God. Temporary blessings are painful. Permanent blessings are divine and pleasurable. I pray that you connect yourself to the society of those who will be blessed forever in Jesus’ name.

We begin the journey by surrendering our life to the Lord Jesus Christ. If you do not have Jesus in your life, pray, “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. Write my name in the book of life. Give me the grace that I may be blessed forever in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
