Wonderful Counsel

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 28:26–29.
“This also cometh forth from the Lord of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working,” Isaiah 28:29.

Wonderful Counsel

Our God is a God of honour and purpose, a God who will instruct us in the way that we should go. Many of us are ignorant in the matters concerning our lives, so we need God to teach us. As the above verse illustrates, God is the right counselor to provide you with counsel and direction. When God counsels, He brings forth wonders in your life. He will cause people to look in wonder at what God has created from the confusion in your life. God can counsel wonderfully because His name is Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace, because He is Jesus, your Saviour, and your salvation. God’s counsel is much more extensive than that of man, who leaves you to implement advice on your own. God’s advice will bring about a life full of wonders, because when He finishes counseling, He then works out the results in a manner where the excellence in His wonderful counsel is made manifest.

Isaiah 11:2 says “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Stop calling your friends for advice. Get on your knees. Read the Word. Ask God to direct you to the place in His Word that will give you the counsel you need. Do not read the Bible mechanically; do not read with your intellect; rather read with spiritual sensitivity. Do not just close your eyes and open the Bible, but deliberately open it and keep reading. The Lord will meet you when you are ready for Him. Some open their Bible to any page, and say that whatever is on that page is what God meant for them to read that day. Not so: this is simply the page where you opened! Instead, when you are seeking counsel from God, get on your knees, pray, and read the Word from one Scripture to another. He will counsel you wonderfully and show His excellence in working.

God is available to counsel you on how to bring up your children properly, how to excel in the works of your hands, what to continue doing and what to end. Pray that God will counsel you in your workplace, in relationship matters, and on issues of the heart.

Prayer Points:

I thank you, Almighty God, because you are the one who is able to cause all grace to abound. Father God, I pray that you will lead me on with your wonderful counsel and help me to discern the diversions, distractions, decisions, issues, questions, and challenges in my life. I need your intervention, your revelation, and your wonderful counsel.

Lord, I glorify your holy name because your Word is clear in its description of your ability as the God who is excellent in working and wonderful in counsel. Just as you counseled Solomon by giving him direction and wisdom, I need your counsel today for the matters arising in my life. May your wonderful counsel cause my confusion to resolve into a wonder. Father, work out excellence in my body, soul, spirit, and in my family, relationships, and ministry. In your love and in your mercy, I need to know what to do and I thank you for providing counsel as you said in your Word, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you are not born again, there is no way the counsel of God can reach you. If you want Jesus as your personal Saviour, pray now and say, “I surrender my life to Jesus and accept Him as my Lord and Saviour. May the Spirit of God come upon me and bless me with the ability to receive wonderful counsel and excellent working from the living God in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
