First of All, Pray
Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 2:3–8
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty,” 1 Timothy 2:1–2.
First of All, Pray
Father God, we thank you for the priviledge of life in Christ Jesus. We thank you for the redemption plan that was implemented. We thank you for the atonement at Calvary. We thank you because our Lord paid in full and was able to tell the devil, “It is finished.” O Father, I thank you because you love your own to the end. Father, I pray today that in your mercy and in your love you will teach us how to walk in liberty, to walk in light so that darkness will have no room in our lives.
Father, let your Word come through to your people, that in all things your name alone will be magnified and glorified in Jesus’ name.
“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting,” 1 Timothy 2:3–8.
Beloved, God is calling us to prayer. He is calling us to make supplications, to intercede, to give thanks for all men, and particularly for kings and all who are in authority. Why do we need to pray for leadership? Leaders affect other people. It is important for you as a Christian to lift them up in prayer no matter their political parties and no matter your personal opinions of them. So today lift up the mayor of your city, pray for the governor of your land, the president or monarch of your nation. Pray for them, that they will work in the ways of God; that God will direct their actions; that God will cause them to do the things that He wants done because the earth and the fullness thereof is the Lord’s. They are just under- shepherds and we as children of God are meant to undergird our leaders.
If you are in an office, today, I want you to pray for your boss, your managers, and your supervisors. Pray for all who are in leadership. Their decisions and their actions affect you.
Paul says, “… first of all, above all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men,” 1 Timothy 2:1. Do you need to talk to God about something in your society? Begin to make supplication now and ask that God’s Kingdom will come in your land. Lift up the names of your leaders, including your pastors. Pastors are leaders in the church and what they say affects Christians in the land. God is calling you to pray for your leaders today. Give thanks for them, intercede for them, and then pray for all men.
Prayer Points:
Father, today we lift up your people before you. We pray that your Kingdom will come on earth, Lord. We pray that in your mercy all hatred and strife will cease. Father, every seed of misunderstanding and disconnection that the enemy has sown in societies, communities, families, churches, and offices, I pray today that it be brought down in the name of Jesus. Father, destroy everything that the enemy has used to pollute our land, such as mistrust, racism, and all the things that the enemy has planted in our society to cause confusion, discord, pain, and war. We pray today that there be peace in the land. Lord, your children are calling on you today.
Father God Almighty, in your mercy, send provision to your children who are in areas of famine and war. We pray that you will bring peace in the land. We pray, Lord God, for all children around the globe. Father, let there be peace in their time. Father God Almighty, in your mercy, command the enemy to let your children, your people, go in the name of Jesus. Father God, we thank you that you prepare people for positions. We ask that you set up those who have been prepared for leadership in our land. Lord, let there be a new dawn of sensitive and responsible leadership in all corners of the world in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
