Candidates for Upgrades

Scripture Reading: Genesis 24:17–19

“And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.  And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink . And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.”

Candidates for Upgrades

Father God, we thank you because we are victorious in your Name. We thank you because there is nothing the name of Jesus cannot accomplish for us. At the name of Jesus, every knee must bow:  things in heaven and things on earth.

Everything must respond to the name of Jesus because there is power in His name.

What makes you and I candidates for divine upgrade? There are three “H’s”: attributes or principles you must guard and implement in order to be in line for divine upgrade. If you are hospitable and humble and if you honour God, you will go from glory to glory until you reach God’s throne. There you will fall adoringly at His feet because He has led you safely through it all. Once you align yourself with God’s plans, you will receive divine upgrades.

Let us examine Genesis 24 for these attributes:

• Hospitality

Rebecca had no business giving water to a stranger, let alone to his camels. Yet because of her hospitable act, she became the wife of Abraham’s son Isaac.  Today, some of us are so stressed out that if someone were to ask for water, our first thought would be, “I don’t need any more stress.” We would be hesitant to help.  Beloved, it does not matter who is

requesting your attention or how you are feeling; if you want to be divinely upgraded, you must practice hospitality without grumbling.  God is not looking for you to do a great thing.

Give that cup of water, and make it your lifestyle.  Be not weary in well-doing. Remain faithful in the little things and you will be blessed enough to be a blessing. God entrusts promotion to those who are hospitable because He knows He will reach others through your hospitality.

• Humility

Without humility, you cannot be hospitable. Some of us are so puffed up that we cannot do simple things for one another.

We refuse to even carry our own bags anymore. We overload those who are helping us to carry them, thinking that someone else should do the work. Who are you and what do you have that God did not give you? Address those things that are making you feel entitled and say to your pride, “Don’t demote me. I want divine upgrade.” When you are humble, God will raise you up, but if you are already puffed up, the only thing He can do is bring you down.

• Honour God

God loves those who honour Him. One great example is Joseph. He decided he would not fall into temptation with his master’s wife. Not only was Joseph considering the welfare of his master, he was primarily seeking to honour God.

Prayer Points:

Father, promotion comes neither from the east nor from the west, but it comes from you, our glorious King. Bless your children with humility and hospitality so we may turn to you with changed hearts. Open our hearts to be a blessing with whatever you have given us. Give us the grace to honour you at a higher level.  Divinely upgrade us in the name of Jesus.
