Plead For Mercy

Father God we ask that you bless us with a deep revelation of our need to plead for mercy at all times. Deliver us from the pride and self-righteousness that keeps us merit oriented. Bless us with the blessings of mercy from You in Jesus’ name.

To plead for mercy, we must have a revelation of the necessity of the operation of mercy in every area of our lives. Our God is merciful in nature. His mercy triumphs over our merits. Therefore, we need to advance from a merit orientation to a mercy orientation and get the benefits of God’s mercy. David in his wisdom, asked the Lord in Psalm 51 by saying “Have mercy upon me O God, according to thy lovingkindness.

According to the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.” He had the wisdom to plead for mercy from God after an offense. Cain cried to God in Genesis 4:13. He said, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.” Moses asked God to have mercy on the children of Israel. Solomon appealed to God to remember the sure mercies of David.

Abigail pleaded for mercy from David and saved her household from death and destruction. In all the above pleadings for mercy, mercy was granted because God is rich in mercy.
In gratitude to God for His mercies, the Bible extols the mercy of God. “O give thanks unto the Lord for he is good and His mercy endureth forever” is repeated at least five times in Psalm 106:1, Psalm 107:1, Psalm 118:1, Psalm 136:1 and 1st Chronicles 16:34. They all affirm that the mercy of God endures forever. Which means that his mercy is still available for us today. May we have the grace to plead for mercy always.

Prayer Points:

Ask the Lord to have mercy on you and yours today. Pray for mercy to respond to every cry and accusation for judgment.
Plead for mercy like David for your sins to be forgiven. Plead for mercy like Blind Bartimaeus for your eyes to be opened.

May mercy say “No” to every demand for punishment against your life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
