Benefits of Giving Thanks to the Lord
Scripture Reading: Psalm 92
“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High,” Psalm 92:1
Benefits of Giving Thanks to the Lord
Father God we thank you for the priviledge of relating to you. You make yourself evident to all who commit to worship you. You become real; you become present. O Holy Father, give us the grace to relate to you positively.
Psalm 92 continues, “To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: and I will triumph in the works of thy hands. O Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever. But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore. For lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. Mine eye also shall see my desire upon my enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him”, Psalm 92:2–15.
I want to affirm that it is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises unto His name, the Most High God. When we give thanks and sing praises to God there are certain benefits that accrue and this is why the devil fights our praise.
Today, I want to enumerate a few of the blessings we receive when we give thanks to the Lord:
Praising God brings promotion. Your horn shall be exalted like the horn of a unicorn. When you give thanks to God, He will exalt your horn; He will raise up your head.
God will anoint you with fresh oil. Praising God brings the anointing, the oil of the Holy Spirit. Praising God stirs up the Spirit of God in you which is why you and I should cultivate the habit of praising God regularly.
God will recompense and satisfactorily respond to every challenge of the enemy. Your eye will see your desire upon your enemies.
You will flourish like the palm tree because you have been planted in the house of the Lord.
You will grow like the cedar in Lebanon. Your divinely nourished growth will be durable and unstoppable.
You will be healed and restored.
You will bring forth fruit in old age; you will be productive to the end.
The house of the Lord is where the Lord is praised. We all know that the Lord inhabits the praises of His people. We all know that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit; God dwells in us by His Spirit. If, in that house, which is our being, praises to the living God go up, we will flourish like the palm tree.
Psalm 92:14–15 says they shall be fat and flourishing to show that the Lord is upright; and there is no unrighteousness in Him. How many of us today will commit to worshipping and praising God? There are so many benefits. I only mentioned a few; but I think this should be enough to make you commit to singing praises and giving thanks unto the Lord. May you and I commit to praising Him while we are working, traveling and during our appointed times with Him. He is going to renew you, anoint you with fresh oil, heal you, promote you, defeat your enemies, and cause you to flourish and be productive forever. You will bring forth fruit in old age if you keep praising God.
Prayer Points:
If you are reading this message and you have never given your life to Jesus it will be difficult to praise God except the Spirit of God is in you. The Spirit of God can only come to you if you accept Jesus into your heart. Then He will deposit His Spirit in you and enable you to praise God and receive the benefits of praising God. If you have never given your life to Jesus, pray with me now, “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. Write my name in the book of life. Give me the born-again experience and the joy of praising you forever in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
