Break Your Idols Down

Scripture Reading: Psalm 135
“The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths,” Psalm 135:15–17.

Break Your Idols Down

Father God we thank you for the wonders that you do. We thank you for the priviledge of worship, the blessings of your Word, and for the encounters of wonders that you perform in our lives. We glorify your holy name.

Psalm 135:1–6 says, “Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord. Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God, Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure. For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.”

Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are either worshipping the living God or giving attention to idols. I encourage you to praise the wonderful Lord who does wonders. He is able to work in every realm. “He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries,” verse 7. He defeats our enemies for us, sends tokens and wonders to Egypt, and is the one who smote great nations, Psalm 135:8–10. He is the one we ought to praise and worship.

Are there any benefits in worshipping an idol? Some of us worship idols that are not real; they are not the living God. Idols have mouths but they cannot speak, eyes but cannot see, ears but cannot hear, and there is no breath in their mouth, verses 16-17. Those who make them are like them and so is everyone who trusts in them, verse 18. If you want to be one of those who have eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot hear, mouths that cannot speak, and if you want to die, keep worshipping idols. If you want to live, worship the living God. God describes idols as heathen: “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the works of men’s hands,” verse 15.

Some of us do not worship carved idols but worship money and will do anything for it. If you are putting your trust in money, you are putting yourself in danger of idolatry and believing in something that has no life. God is the one who is alive and well. He has eyes that see and he holds the future in His hands, a mouth that can speak and speak life, and ears that can hear your silent cries. He is the one who is worthy of your trust. All of the money in the world belongs to God, for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and all they that dwell therein, Psalm 24:1. Promotion does not come from the east or west, it comes from God for your necessary uses in life. No one can buy or bribe God. Isn’t it time for you to say “Everything I want, all the blessings I long for, all the monies I need, all the treasures I desire, all the promotions I seek, and all the recognition I wish for, I want them to come through God.” Man’s blessings come with conditions, whereas when God blesses, the blessings do not add any sorrow.

I pray that you will eliminate the idols you have set in your heart. Clear away silver and gold idols, objects of worship that are idols, idols that have been imported from all over the world, idols that are hidden in your house. It is time for you to lift up Jesus Christ, to worship Him in spirit and in truth. It is time for you to get true blessings, blessings that come alive, blessings that grow. The God who pours out those blessings is the living God. I pray that you bless the Lord. “Bless the Lord, O house of Israel: bless the Lord, O house of Aaron: Bless the Lord, O house of Levi: ye that fear the Lord, bless the Lord. Blessed be the Lord out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord,” Psalm 135:19–21.

Prayer Points:

I pray that anyone reading this message who has not given his or her life to Jesus will pray with me now, “Lord Jesus, I am ready to totally surrender my life to you. I am ready to break down my idols of silver and gold. I am ready to break down my carved ancestral idols. Take me to that place of living blessings that comes from worshipping the living God. I am ready to follow you. Write my name in the book of life. Make me one of your children, filled with your Spirit, born again, ready to focus only on you, and ready to receive blessings only from you.” Amen.
