Confidence in Jesus

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:35–39
“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward,” Hebrews 10:35.

Confidence in Jesus

Father, we thank you for being the King of kings and Lord of lords. We thank you because you have given us a lifeline to pull us out of the depths of sorrow, sin, deprivation and lack; a lifeline to bring us to shore. We thank you for faith, which is that lifeline. Your Word in Hebrews 10:35, tells us not to cast away our confidence which has great recompence of reward.

Lord, we pray that you will give us the grace to have enough confidence in you to live by faith in you. Deliver us from drawing back so that you will always have pleasure in us because we stayed in faith in Jesus’ name.

It is important that we hold onto our confidence, our faith in God, because in it there is great reward. Initially, we “…have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise,” Hebrews 10:36. After a time of patience, “Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul,” verses 38–39.

I encourage you not to cast away your confidence, your boldness that comes through faith in Christ Jesus. The practice of faith first calls for confidence and boldness, then patience, then for us to be in the will of God. We are to do the will of God so that we will receive the promise, “For yet a little while and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry, verse 37.

God will come through for you; He is never a day early and never a day late. He comes right on time and that is why the just shall live by faith, Hebrews 10:38. A life that fears God must have the components of faith, including believing God for the impossible. All things are possible with God but all things are not possible with our reasoning. When we begin to live by faith, we walk where God makes impossibilities possible. He is delighted in our practice of faith. So I encourage you to begin to exercise faith. Let us go forward in faith so that God will have pleasure in us. Hebrews 10:39 says, “But we are not of them who draw back” to destruction.

When you draw back in doubt, you are going back to destruction. When you go back to a faithless life where your confidence is not in God but in your circumstances, you lose the pleasure of God. We have no other option, we have to go forward in faith; in confidence that God is able to do what He has promised. We have to be faithful to the end, and be of them that believe to the saving of the soul. I pray that what makes you draw back will be removed from your life in Jesus’ name.

Father, I pray that you increase our faith and give us the grace to keep our confidence in you; give us the grace to substantiate the things we hope for, to believe in the things that we do not see, so that we will obtain a good report to the glory of your holy name.

Prayer Points:

The first step of faith is that you believe in Jesus and accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour. If you have never given your life to Jesus, pray with me now, “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. I want to live a life of faith. I want to live among the just who live by faith, who believe to the end, to the saving of the soul and maintain their confidence in you, in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
