Turn Your Face to the Wall
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 38:1–2
“In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord.
Turn Your Face to the Wall
Father God we thank you for the priviledge of prayer and for the healing virtues that come through prayer. We thank you for the revelation of healing virtues as an effective force that is transfused into our body, soul, and spirit as it brings us through the process of regaining health.
Today, let us turn to Isaiah 38 to see how Hezekiah connected to healing virtues through prayer. “O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, he shall praise thee as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord. For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?,” Isaiah 38:16–22.
Hezekiah had received word that he should put his house in order because he was going to die, but the Bible says he turned his face to the wall and prayed: “And he said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, The God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years,” Isaiah 38:3–5.
Prayer connects us to healing. When we hear an evil report, when our medical test results are not in our favour, many prepare for the worst. But we see a different example in Hezekiah who was told not by a doctor but a prophet that he was going to die. It was a verdict from God. But he knew how to connect to healing virtues in prayer and he prayed, bringing before God his relationship with God. And then he wept.
Would you be able to present your relationship with God to Him? Many would recount their good deeds but they would not cry. It takes repentance, desperation, and humility to cry. Some say if God wants to take me after what I’ve done, well He is God, then let Him do it. That is pride speaking. But Hezekiah presented his relationship and then wept sore. Have you ever prayed to a point where you wept or are you just an eloquent prayer warrior? Particularly, when it is time to pray for other people, do you just parrot things or have you prayed to a point where weeping ensued?
Today is the day to understand the truth in the Word of God: healing virtues come through prayer. Healing virtues come through a broken heart presenting the situation to God, saying, Lord, I need you to remember my relationship with you. As soon as Hezekiah wept, God told Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that He would add fifteen years to his life. Has God heard your prayers? Has He seen your tears? Prayers that are blended with tears bring healing virtues as this passage attests. I pray that God will give you that revelation personally. I pray that God will give you the grace to turn your face to the wall.
Sometimes we pray in public and we turn our face to the world, but the prayers that bring virtue are the prayers we pray when we turn our face away from the world. When we face the wall there is focus, concentration, communication, and activation of healing virtues because there are no distractions.
I want to say to you today that beyond factoring the name of the Lord into your situation and praying for the Sun of Righteousness to arise with healing in his wings, prayers with tears connect us to healing virtues.
Prayer Points:
If you are sick, turn your face to the wall now. The world has given you its verdict; it has shown you it can do nothing. Now is the time for you to turn your face toward the wall and pray unto the Lord. Present your case to the Lord, weeping sore so that God will see your tears, hear your prayers, and add days unto your life in Jesus’ name. But without the Holy Ghost you will not be able to turn away from the world. You must surrender your life to Jesus, have a personal relationship with Him, and in that relationship connect with the Holy Spirit. If you are not yet born again, pray with me, “Dear Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you. Write my name in the book of life, pour the power of the Holy Spirit in me so He will enable me to pray, enable me to cry tears unto the Lord that God will add years unto my life in Jesus’ name.”
