The Overcomer’s Anointing
Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 4–5
“And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses,” Nehemiah 4:14.
The Overcomer’s Anointing
Father, I thank you because we have overcome by the blood of the Lamb; we have overcome by the word of our testimonies. Father, we glorify your holy name because every mountain standing before us will be overturned by the roots; we will overcome because we receive from you by your Holy Spirit the overcomer’s anointing. Lord, we pray that you give us the breakthrough needed for the fulfillment of our divine destinies.
As in Nehemiah 4:6, many of us as Christians get divine assignments from God. The Holy Spirit places these actions in our hearts, but often as we begin to do the work we hit obstacles. We need a breakthrough as well as the overcomer’s anointing. To receive the overcomer’s anointing, we are to follow Nehemiah’s example of overcoming each of the seven obstacles set before him:
Ridicule. Have you tried to do something for God only to discover that your circumstances mock your assignment? It is not even that other people are laughing at you, but rather the facts of your own situation that make taking on such an assignment laughable. But as you get the overcomer’s anointing, God will cause what seems ridiculous to become a reality.
Attack. Once you overcome ridicule, the enemy will attempt to attack the project. Even though he cannot attack because the work is divinely inspired, he will threaten to attack. When you face the threat of attack know that it is the devil and he has no power. The Bible confirms that the enemy is tricky and that we must stand against the wiles of the devil, Ephesians 6:11. In order to overcome his trickery, we must take the Word of God seriously. If we do not know our God, we are weak and unable to overcome the enemy’s exploits. Knowing God strengthens us to stand against the enemy in the name of Jesus.
Discouragement. Do not succumb to discouragement. Nehemiah encouraged himself because he understood that the assignment impacted many others: his family, his generation, his whole entity, his whole scenario, Nehemiah 4:14. The people in his life and all of Israel were depending on this breakthrough, so he encouraged himself. When God gives you an assignment, it is to profit withal; it concerns your brethren and household so you must turn discouragement into encouragement.
Extortion. The enemy will then bring extortion, as he did in Nehemiah 5. How can you overcome extortion? You must have an abundance mindset so that no price is too high for you to pay concerning the Kingdom, particularly if God has already provided.
Compromise. The enemy tries to neutralize our destinies and divine assignments with compromise. He may try to convince you that you are looking too different from the pack. You have a prophetic gifting, you utter the Word of God as it comes to you, but another prophet may tell you that your way is too different, that you need to prophesy according to what everybody else is prophesying. May you overcome the hindrance of compromise in Jesus’ name.
Slander. When you refuse to compromise, you will hear weird stories about yourself. Even when slander comes, do not worry. Tell the slander it will go the way of other hindrances. The only person who needs to know about you, your integrity, and your intent is God. If you are fine before God, men will follow. You are not the king in the Kingdom, Jesus is. People scandalized Him, but He fulfilled His destiny. May you fulfill yours in Jesus’ name.
Treachery. When slander fails, treachery will come. When treachery comes do not be afraid, the God who delivered you before will deliver you again. It is essential that you fulfill your divine assignment and this requires breakthroughs in every realm: physical, emotional, and spiritual. You must have a breakthrough in your soul realm and you must have the resources to fulfill your ministry.
Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that you pour into our lives the anointing to overcome obstacles in our divine destinies. Lord, we need the anointing to overcome diversions, distractions, and roadblocks placed by the enemy. Give us the grace to fulfill our destinies as ordered by our Saviour and Master. Give us the grace to have breakthroughs in our spiritual lives after the order of Daniel who was able to pray without cooling off in spite of the obstacles he faced spiritually. Give us the breakthrough we need physically, like Caleb, so that our natural force will not abate. Give us the grace to have the resources that will overcome every kind of extortion and financial challenge. Give us that overcomer’s anointing with resources in the order of Solomon in Jesus’ name. Give us the overcomer’s anointing in the order of David, that we will overcome our emotional challenges. Lord, make us socially relevant. Make us a blessed people so that we will not only be blessed, but that we will also be a blessing in the order of Abraham in the name of Jesus.
Prayer Points:
This overcomer’s anointing can only come by the Holy Spirit. If you have never given your life to the Lord, pray with me now, “Lord Jesus I surrender my life to you. Write my name in the book of life and bless me with the overcomer’s anointing in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
