Believe and Ask

Scripture Reading: John 14:11–15
“Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son,” John 14:11–13.

Believe and Ask

Father, we thank you because the Lamb that was slain is worthy. We thank you because we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. We thank you because every test we are going through now will become a testimony; every trial we are going through now will lead to triumph in the name of Jesus. Lord, we thank you for your Word that is settled, that is calling us to believe in you so that when we ask anything in the name of Jesus, you will do it.

“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak,” John 12:44–50.

Our message today is entitled, Believe and Ask. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments,” John 14:14–15.

Pray for the grace to believe and ask.

Beloved, do you believe Jesus, or is Christianity a religion that you were born into? I want you to progress into a relationship with the Lord. There must come a day in your life when you will say, “Today I am surrendering my life to Jesus. I am committing my life to believing in Jesus and acting on His Word.” If you are a Christian, you know as I know that God has done a work in your life. When He says for “works’ sake,” He is not talking about the miracles written about in the Bible. He is talking about the works He has done in your life. There are things that have happened in your life that you know were His work and He is saying that if everything around you doubts Him, why not believe Him for His works’ sake?

Why not believe Him like David did when He faced the giant Goliath, by remembering the work that the Lord did yesterday, that he “deliver[ed] me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear,” 1 Samuel 17:37. David then said, “He will deliver me from this Goliath.” The foundation of your faith is in believing the work that the Lord has done in your life. When the Lord Jesus takes you on as His personal project, He does works and provides signs to you so that you know positively that He loves you. You are able to say, “yes, Jesus loves me,” not just because the Bible tells you so, but also because you have experienced Him.

Have you experienced Jesus? If you are born again, filled with His Spirit, no doubt you have experienced Him. You have experienced salvation; you have experienced receiving direction from Him. That is why this message is for you today. Yes, these are the days when those who believe will receive. Where is Jesus now? He is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, the Creator and owner of heaven and earth; the one who can make a way where there is no way. The one who can change your circumstances suddenly; the one who can open doors that no one can shut; the one who can shut doors that no one can open.

What is Jesus doing by God? He is ever making intercession for you and me. He is saying that He is your justifier, your intercessor; He is there pleading your case. Ask anything in His name and God will do it because Jesus said yes to The Father and The Father would never say no to Him. The One to whom God says yes is sitting at the right hand of God on our behalf. Beloved, believe and ask, and He will do it. May God be blessed by our lives forever in this day of good things in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points:

If you have never given your life to Jesus, pray with me now and say, “Dear Lord Jesus, I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. O Father, give me the grace to believe and ask in Jesus’ name.” Amen.
