Let Us
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:19–25
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching,” Hebrews 10:22–25.
Let Us
Father, we thank you for the blessing of cleansing and the priviledge of sanctification. We thank you for washing us with pure water. By your grace, today is better than yesterday and we are persuaded that in your faithfulness, tomorrow will be better than today. The sin that easily besets us is no longer holding us down. Thank you for delivering us from our old nature, and giving us a new nature. We pray, O Lord, that that which you expect from us will become reality; sin will no longer live in our lives in Jesus’ name.
“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching,” Hebrews 10:19–25.
Beloved, the day of the Lord is approaching. Are you ready? We are living in the last days and it is possible that the King, the Bridegroom, will return any time soon. Therefore, let us look to the book of Hebrews to learn the three main things we can do to keep ourselves ready. I call them the three “Let Us.”
The first, in verse 22, says, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience . . . ” Are you troubled by an evil conscience? I sprinkle the blood of Jesus upon it today, and I pray that God in His mercy will clear your conscience and that sin would no longer perpetuate in your heart. Why? Because Jesus died for you and He is providing for you a new and living way. He tears apart all the things that are shouting against you. He shreds to pieces all the ordinations and writings against you and all of the spiritual tickets that have been written against you because of your sin. O Father, I pray for the grace of restitution. I pray that we will all draw near with a pure conscience, that we will be washed with the purity of the living water. Let it flow over our soul. Let it wash over our emotions, and everything that is crying out against us. Father, let there be an uprooting of every evil sinful thought, in Jesus’ name.
The second thing we can do to be ready for Christ’s return is found in verse 23: “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith, without wavering.” Be persistent in your faith and draw near to God. Do you believe that Jesus died for you and that your sins are washed away? Do not let the enemy bring back your past to harass you. Hold fast to your faith that your heart has been sprinkled with His blood from an evil conscience and your body has been washed with the pure water. Confess that Jesus died for you and that you owe the devil nothing. You are free. Whom the Son has set free is free indeed!
The third, in verse 24, says, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” How can I provoke you to love? By manifesting a loving action in your life and showing you love. Many of us have been so abused. Many have lived such loveless lives, lives that have been so forsaken that we feel as if nobody cares about us. But by the grace of God, as we draw near with a true heart, as we hold fast to the profession of our faith, the drawing near to God provokes acts of love and good works. I can show you love that will stir up the love that has been buried deep down, inside of you for a long time. I can provoke you to good works by doing a work unto God that inspires you to recognize that you have the ability to do the same. God is calling us to draw near to provoke one another to love and to good works.
Finally, verse 25 says, “ . . . not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together because there we can exhort one another, encourage one another.” I pray that God will give us the grace to draw near today, to hold fast today, to provoke one another to love and good works today in the name of Jesus. And if there is any backsliding in the church or abuse in the church, I pray for the grace of restoration to the church for you.
Prayer Points:
Father, let us draw near to you. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith, and let us consider one another to provoke to love and good works. By your grace we can do all these things.
Keep us pure and united in love in Jesus’ name. Father, we pray your blessings upon all of our lives. Amen.
