Working of Miracles
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:7–10
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.”
Working of Miracles
How can we work miracles and why is it necessary to work them? First Corinthians 12 says God gave the gift of the working of miracles. The Bible did not say He gave the gift of miracles; it says He gave the gift of the working of miracles.
You have probably experienced a miracle from God; something you were hoping for but felt would not happen without God’s intervention. Suddenly, God comes through and it is done; because you are made in His image and He wants you to manifest His attributes and the gifts He has given you.
When you understand how to work for God, you will begin to experience the miraculous in your life. Once you master this pathway, the extraordinary will become a reality in your life and the supernatural will perpetually be your portion. You have the gift of working miracles within, but positive actions are required on your part for it to become a reality. First, you must have the attributes of those who work in the realm of the miraculous. You must be the Lord’s sheep. You cannot work a miracle if you have not surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. You must also be hungry for a miracle; you do not sit down if you are not ready to eat. Are you hungry for an upgrade, ready to expand your mind, ready to exercise your faith, and set your mind on the things above?
When you have all these attributes, it is time for action to prepare for the working of miracles. First, you need to write down the vision of the miracle you want, and make it plain. If, for example, you want to build a house or set up an industry or a ministry, write the vision down. You have to write it beyond what your mind sees as practical, beyond your ability.
In order to see beyond your reality, you have to resolve to renew your mind. In certain cultures, like the United States, when people say, “You’re out of your mind,” it is a polite way of saying, “You’re mad!” Yes, you have to be willing to be considered crazy when you want to work a miracle because the vision you write down must be beyond your normal imagination, beyond your capabilities. When you write that vision and make it plain, you have to recognize that you need an expanded mind. You have to understand that the miracle is too big for you to conceptualize. At this point, you must renew your mind by first praying for the Lord to take you out of your natural mind and place in you His supernatural mind. Then you must read the Word. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 2:5. You have to get to the place where you can say, “Lord, grant me the mind which was in Christ Jesus. Take my natural mind out and put in me the supernatural mind so that I will begin to think like you, and thereby think on great things.”
Once you have a new mind, you must keep it renewed by the Word of God. Maintain the God-mind you now have with the Word of God, which will flow in to water it, make it fertile, give you ideas, and cause things to work together for good.
You are now ready to begin to “work out” in the miraculous. To “work out” means to exercise; and just as you physically work out to gain strength or maintain your health, you have to do spiritual exercises to create and maintain a new spiritual lifestyle.
When you begin, say to yourself, “These are minimal exercises.” For the renewing and expansion of your mind, read one book of the Bible and worship at least thirty minutes each day. Pray at least one hour a day, pray in the Word you just read, so you are totally soaked with the mind of Christ.” Now you are equipped to expect miracles and to act on the miraculous visions you have written down. Our faithful God will cause this to become a reality in your life. God gave the gifts of the working of miracles as stated in 1 Corinthians 12:10, and you can manifest this in your life by soaking yourself in Him and taking action upon His Word.
Prayer Points:
Father God, we thank you for the promises in your Word that you will perform good things for your children. Let this become a reality in our realm and in our lives, in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you give me the grace to understand how to work a miracle. Grant me the mind of Christ and help me to see things outside of my normal scope of vision. Expand my mind, O Lord, so that I can see what you have ordained for me. Help me to accept the reality of unlimited possibilities.
Guide me in my prayer and worship of you, O mighty Lord, so that I am honouring you the way you desire to be honoured.
Give me the vision to see the miracles you have in store for me so that I can manifest your attributes and activate them in my life, in Jesus’ name.
