How to Seek the Lord

Scripture Reading: Amos 5:4, 6, 8
“For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live . . . Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel . . . Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.”

How to Seek the Lord

Holy Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that you give us the grace to seek you and find you and live. Let your people live so that they can declare your good works.

Do you remember the first time you lost your parents in a crowded place like a train station or an amusement park? You probably searched frantically for them and then burst into tears, feeling abandoned. Losing your parents when you are a child is a frightening experience. How much worse would it be when you feel separated from your heavenly Father!

Without God’s presence, this world is indeed frightening. The only way to survive these difficult times, this evil day, is to seek God. The Lord has made it clear to us that we should seek Him and live. Let us explore three practical ways that we can seek God today.

  1. Dwell in the secret place of prayer
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty,” Psalm 91:1.

  2. Worship
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth,” John 4:24.

  3. Apply the blood of Jesus
Apply the blood of Jesus upon all areas of your life: your family, home, business, ministry, and church. There is protection in the blood. “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt,” Exodus 12:13.

God first told His children to apply the blood upon their doorposts for their deliverance from death. Even today, the Word of God remains the same. The blood is still as powerful. Begin to seriously plead the blood daily.

Beloved seek God early. Meditate on Him. Esteem His Word; consider it to be more necessary than food. Read at least a chapter of the Bible per day. Apply the blood. Dwell in the secret place of prayer and praise. Dwell in the secret place of ministry. Wise people seek God. I pray that God will give you the wisdom to seek Him.

Job in his day of trouble, in his evil day, did the wise thing and sought God. “Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat,” Job 23:3.

Prayer Points:

Today, we are not in Job’s position; we can find God through Jesus Christ, the living Word of God. So if you have never given your life to Jesus, pray with me now, “Dear Lord Jesus, I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. I confess and forsake my sins. Cleanse me from my sins with your blood and write my name in the book of life.”

Father God, pour your Spirit into our lives in a fresh measure and give us the grace to seek you so we will stay alive during this evil day. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
