Call His Name
Scripture Reading: Luke 18:35–43
“And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me,” Luke 18:35-38.
Call His Name
Lord Jesus, we thank you because your powerful name brings healing and deliverance. We love calling your name.
Today, many of us have succumbed to the challenges we face. We have become so passive and sedentary that we view ourselves as helpless victims. Like Bartimaeus, we are sitting down by the wayside, begging for mercy, because that is all we feel we can do. I pray that you will follow Bartimaeus’s example and recognize the Word of God passing by you today. I pray that you will know it is a message from the Lord Jesus urging you to look to Him to experience deliverance.
When Bartimaeus asked and understood that Jesus was passing by, he instantly knew that his Saviour had come. He knew that this would be the end of sitting by the wayside and begging, that Jesus would deliver him from his problems. Do you know that Jesus has come? He has come into your situation today.
Are you going to remain passive, or will you cry out loudly for mercy?
“And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee?
And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God,” Luke 18:39–43.
Do not pay attention to the rebuke of people around you. Just like they discouraged Bartimaeus, people will downplay the size of your problem, tell you that you are making too much noise, praying too much, or looking too frantically for Jesus. When the crowd told Bartimaeus to hold his peace, his response was to cry out even more. How could they tell a blind man to hold his peace when a healer was passing by? Cry out loudly to Jesus. Do not hold your peace.
Just like Jesus stood still for Bartimaeus, He will stand still for you and He will ask, “What do you want me to do for you?” Do not be afraid to answer specifically. Bartimaeus told Jesus that he wanted to see and he received his sight. When the name of Jesus is called, every knee must bow: the knee of your sickness, the knee of your affliction, the knee of your enemy will bow. Your enemies will flee. Just call on the name of Jesus, believe in His power, and ask for a new favour.
Faith in the name of Jesus is necessary for deliverance. There is no other name that justifies you, saves you, or brings excellence into your life. Bartimaeus had a challenge that caused him to sit by the wayside, begging. But he did not sit there forever because at the appointed time, Jesus of Nazareth passed by. Beloved, this is your appointed time. Jesus Christ is passing by. When you cry out, God will bless you so that others will see what He has done. I pray that you will have the grace to call on His name today.

If you are not born again, you have not tasted the sweetness of His name. Cry out to Jesus with me, “Dear Lord Jesus, write my name in the book of life. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. I confess and forsake my sins. Forgive my sins and bless me so I can give you all the praise.”
Lord Jesus, we need healing, deliverance, and solutions to our challenges. Set us free. We need a breakthrough. In your faithfulness, answer us and give us the grace to share our testimonies with others. We love to call your name because you are faithful; you are the unchanging one; and you have the name that is above every other name.
