The Government of God

Scripture Reading:  Isaiah 9:6

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

The Government of God

Father, we thank you because our Redeemer lives. We thank you because the one who restores us to faith, life, righteousness, holiness, and intimacy with God is alive and seated at the right hand of God. Thank you for the life of Christ, for He is praying for us now.

There are different governments in the world; though they may have shortcomings, governments strive to fulfill the basic duties of all governments:  to protect, provide and promote their citizens, and punish their wrongdoings.

Today, we are not going to discuss human governments, but rather the government of God, because everything we see in the physical takes its cue from the spiritual. Are you under the government of the living God or are you your own king?  In the above passage, we see that the government shall be upon His shoulder. “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this,” Isaiah 9:7.  This passage is talking about the government of the Lord Jesus. Our living God was governing us before we were conceived. He foreknew any opposition against us and planned our lives totally before He began them. Yet, when we come into physical form we sometimes abandon the government that is permanently responsible for us in this life and in eternity. We become conscious of our liberty and decide we do not need God or His government.  If you are not under the government of God, then you are missing out on the protection, provision, correction, preservation, and promotion of God.  I pray that you will get the revelation that you need God more than God needs you.

What enables a child to walk to the edge of a balcony and walk away without falling off?  It is God.  What enables an aircraft to fly, shake, endure turbulence, stabilize, and land? It is God. The protection of God is at work. And who can correct us better than God? God’s correction is beautiful because He is our everlasting Father. And after He has finished perfecting, He promotes. Peter denied Jesus thrice but God never abandoned him.  In fact he was restored and allowed to lead the church in his time.

I pray that you will submit totally to God’s government. When God asks you to jump, you should ask, “How high?” When God wants you to sit, you should just sit and wait for His next directive; then you will reap the benefits of God’s government.

Prayer Points:

If you have never given your life to Jesus, you cannot experience the blessings of His government.  So pray along with me, “Lord Jesus, I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. I confess and forsake my sins. Cleanse me from my sins with your blood and write my name in the book of life. O Lord, let me be under your government forever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Father God, as many as would be under your government, I pray that you would protect, preserve, perfect, promote, and provide for them.
