The Throne of God

Scripture Reading: Revelation 4:2–3
“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.”

The Throne of God

Father God, we thank you for the priviledge of a relationship with you. We thank you for the pathway of worship that you have made clear for us with different examples in your Word. We thank you for your Word in the book of Revelation 4, because it affirms the truth that you are holy; you are the Lord and you are God Almighty, which was and is and is to come.

Let us look in the book of Revelation chapter 4 at the throne of God. As we worship His Majesty, let us look at an analysis of how the throne of God operates. Revelation 4:1 says, “After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.” Verses 2–3 are related in today’s scripture reading.

We continue, “And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne and round about the throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created,” Revelation 4:4–11.

This passage is proof that we were created to give God pleasure. Our purpose is to give God pleasure. We are alive today because God still sees in us the potential to give Him pleasure. We are alive, at His pleasure. In this chapter of the Bible we see four beasts: lion, calf, man, and eagle all praising God, and each of the four had six wings about him and they were full of eyes within, and they did not rest day or night, perpetually saying Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was and is and is to come. The beasts are praising God, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him and worship Him saying to Him that He is worthy to receive glory, honour, and power. Do you consider God worthy to receive glory, honour, and power in your life? Some people do not see the need to present themselves with reverence, dignity, and contemplation. Do you see the need?

When we worship God, we give Him pleasure and it adds years to our lives. It makes us relevant in eternity and it gives us a sense of connection to the Father that we claim everyday. I pray that God will give us the grace to come before His throne with due reverence and worship His Majesty.

Prayer Points:

The first step of worship is to have a relationship. How can you worship one with whom you have no relationship? You must have a relationship. The first step in having that relationship is in surrendering your life to Jesus, saying, “Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, I need your salvation. Lord, connect me to your power. I surrender my life to you. Write my name in the book of life, pour your Spirit in me, and give me the grace to worship you at your throne.”

May Jesus be the object of your worship; may your connection to God give God pleasure, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
