Contact with the Word
Scripture Reading: Mark 1:35–44
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed,” Mark 1:35.
Contact with the Word
Father God we thank you for all the times that your mercy has said “no” to death in our lives, all the times that your mercy has said “no” to terrible judgment upon our lives. Thank you Lord for your mercies have connected us to healing virtues and delivered us from sickness.
After Jesus had slipped away in the early hours to pray, Simon and the others followed after Him and Jesus said, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth,” Mark 1:38. From there, “he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee and cast out devils. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed,” verses 39–42.
The key verse in this series of events is verse 35, because praying a great while before daybreak was the power source. It was after Jesus’ prayer that He was able to go to the next town to preach and cast out devils. It was after His prayer that a leper came to Him beseeching that He would make him clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, touched the leper and said, “be thou clean,” verse 41.
You and I can connect to healing virtues through contact with the Word of God; contact with the anointing of God. In our Lord Jesus Christ these two virtues are intertwined in His character and the essence of His ministry. Jesus is the Word of God and the Word of God is full of power. The Bible says He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions, Psalm 107:20. The powerful force of the Word of God to heal can never be underestimated. When the Word of God comes alive for you, when that effective force for healing is activated through contact with the Word, this is Jesus coming through the Bible, through the Word, to you. He is making contact with you and you ought to make contact with Him.
That leper kneeled down before Jesus and said, “If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean,” and Jesus not only spoke healing, but also “put forth his hand, and touched him,” verses 40–41. As soon as Jesus had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was cleansed, verse 42. When light comes into a place, there can be no discussion with darkness; darkness must disappear. When there is an absence of light or the light is obscured or the voltage is low, darkness diminishes the light.
But sickness departs when the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings, when the Word of God is activated, when contact is made with the anointing.
Healing for the Christian is not a magical mystery or mystical force, it is contact with the anointing, the power of God manifested in the Holy Spirit, the Word activated. The Word of God to many is an historical document, but to others it is the power of God. It is filled with healing virtues, revelations, and direction. The Word is Jesus because the Bible says in the beginning, “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,” John 1:14.
The Word is Jesus and in Him is life. He is the light of the world, “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not,” John 1:5. When Jesus comes into a situation, darkness must disappear, which is why the enemy loves us to come into the dark where he can oppress. But when you and I face the Son, factor in the name of the Lord, and fear His name, the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings.
I pray that God will give you contact with the Word today and the Word will bring healing virtues into your life, that contact with the anointing will be generated when you speak the Word, and communication with the Word will bring the anointing.
The spoken Word from our Lord Jesus brought healing virtues and cleansed the leper. The leprosy of our generation is sin caused by sickness of the mind; and only contact with the Word can cleanse and deliver us from the pit of sin and hell.
I pray that God will give us contact with the Word, and that through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, darkness will flee. I pray today by the Word of God that you will make contact with that effective force in Jesus’ name.

If you have never given your life to Jesus, all of what we are talking about will sound abstract, but it is real. I want you to pray with me now, “Lord Jesus, I need this effective power in my life. I accept you as my Lord and my Saviour. Write my name in the book of life and give me contact with the Word, contact with the anointing so that healing will be progressive, perpetual, and permanently so in my life. I pray that I will never be sick again but remain in constant contact with the Word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
