The Restoration of the Axe Head
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 6:1–7
“But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it,” 2 Kings 6:5–7.
The Restoration of the Axe Head
Father God, we thank you for your wonderful love. We bless your holy name because your gifts are irrevocable. We thank you for the wonders in your Word, for the signs and wonders, and for the supernatural in your Word that you want to make real in our world. Lord, give us the grace to walk in the realm of the supernatural in Jesus’ name.
The supernatural is something that is superior to the natural. Signs and wonders are supernatural. God works out supernatural signs and wonders to affirm that there is none above Him. God has put His supernatural manifestations in the Bible to encourage us, to affirm that He is in control.
2 Kings 6:1–4 says, “And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered go ye. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.” And we learn from verses 5–7, the man of God made the sunken axe head swim.
An axe is what people use to cut wood. What makes the axe effective is the axe head because that is the sharpened iron, the cutting edge that is connected to a strong stick or branch. For the sunken iron to surface and visibly swim is a supernatural act of God to affirm that there is nothing He cannot do. It is not scientific, normal, or natural for iron to swim.
May every iron that the enemy has drowned in your life come to the surface again by the power of the cross of Jesus. May it swim again so you can reconnect it and get your life back to its cutting edge. Many of us are walking through life right now with our axe heads drowned; we are going around trying to cut through life with just a stick. You need your axe head restored; you need the supernatural to get your axe head to float again. I pray in the name of Jesus that you will be conscious of where your life is right now. Are you fulfilling your destiny? Or, are you striking wood with wood? I pray that the God who caused Elisha to throw the stick in the water, the God who caused Jesus to die on a wooden cross which represents that stick, the cross, will be placed on the waters of your life and that every drowned axe head will swim. I pray that you reconnect and begin to cut again with your sharpened axe. I pray that your life will be restored to the cutting edge of its purpose in your ministry to God.
Perhaps the enemy has harmed you so much that he is sure there is nothing you can do. He has drowned your effectiveness, drowned the weapon with which you minister. You know how to do everything but you are not effective at anything. You cannot even do the things that you used to do with great joy and accomplishment. Maybe you are a craftsman but you get to the shop and cannot work. Maybe you are a writer and you get to the office but cannot do what you did very well in the past. I pray today that the power of your salvation come back, and your deliverance come with your restoration. I pray that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of the living God who died on the cross for our sins, that every axe head of the children of God be restored. May the lives of all who have been neutralized by the drowned axe head be restored to their cutting edge.
May Jesus’ death on the cross not be in vain in your life. Father God Almighty, we thank you for your supernatural abilities, because even cases that have been lost can be won again. Everything that the enemy has stolen from us can be divinely restored by the application of the cross which saves and restores in the name of Jesus.
Our Father, I ask that you decode this message beyond what is being said now. In your mercy and love, cause your Word to work in the lives of your people to the glory of your holy name.

If you have never given your life to Jesus, never gone to the cross to get back what is lost so that you have the power of Jesus Christ to cause your drowned axe head to swim, I pray that you pray now. Say, “Lord Jesus, I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. I ask that you write my name in the book of life in your mercy and in your love. Get my life back to its cutting edge and let it start with you, O Lord. Let it start with salvation and let me experience deliverance and restoration in Jesus’ name.”
