Stagger Not
Father God, I thank you and give you all glory and honour for you are worthy to be praised. I pray that you will give us the grace to believe and that our faith will not stagger at your promises. Thank you for Abraham’s example of faith. Lord we are tired of staggering and stammering in our faith. Lord, give us the grace to keep the faith that does not stagger.
The Bible says, “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification,” Romans 4:16–25.
What kind of faith do you have? Are you exercising a faith like Abraham’s? The Bible says he is the father of faith because he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. Our faith can be strengthened when we recall the might and greatness of God, the glory of God, the love of God, the possibilities in God, the immutability of His Word, and the power that is in His name. Conversely, when we begin to consider the negatives, we weaken our faith. The Bible says that Abraham “against hope believed in hope,” Romans 4:18. When hope says, “Do not even believe in me,” Abraham told hope, “I believe in you.” In your faith walk with God, can you against hope believe in hope and not stagger at the promises of God? The Bible says he was not weak in faith because he did not consider his own body dead. Abraham did not falter because he wanted to be strong in faith; he did not want his faith to stagger. He did not even consider his body that was about an hundred years old; neither did he consider the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
The exercise of our faith in God is based on our belief in His willingness to act on our behalf. Abraham was fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was able to perform; therefore, he did not stagger at the promise of God. He did not stagger through unbelief but was strong in faith giving glory to God. I want you to hold onto faith, to get to that place in your walk with God where you will believe in God because of who God is, because you are fully persuaded that God is able to perform what he has promised. Are you wallowing in doubt now, asking, Is He really going to do it? Who am I that He will do it? Do not consider yourself. Abraham did not consider himself, nor did he consider Sarah. He just believed in hope against hope that what God had promised, He was able to deliver. God is saying to you, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah,” Jeremiah 33:14. I declare to you that the day of good things has come if you will not stagger in your faith, if you will not consider yourself and the circumstances around you; if you believe that what God has promised He is able to perform.
