Anointing to Prophesy
Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 10:1–7
“And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee,” 1 Samuel 10:6–7.
Anointing to Prophesy
Father God, thank you for the Holy Spirit that is doing mighty works in our lives. Today I ask that you give us the grace to receive from your Word a revelation that will convert us into a people that prophesy, proclaim your Word, and manifest the reality of your Word in this generation in the name of Jesus.
“Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his [Saul’s] head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? When thou art departed from me today, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulcher in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son? Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine: And they will salute thee and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands. After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

Saul did not have a perfect heart, a perfect history, or a perfect future, but God took pleasure in him and decided to change his life by anointing him with His Holy Spirit. By this Spirit, Saul manifested God’s Presence and began to prophesy with other prophets.
There are two dimensions to the word “prophesy”. One is to proclaim the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, as Saul did, and the other is to tell what will happen in the future. According to this passage, God is calling you to begin to proclaim the Word of God concerning your life. All you need is a Bible and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. For example, look at Psalm 23 and begin to prophesy because the Spirit of God is upon you: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
The Word of God will come alive to you when the Spirit of the Lord comes upon you. The Scriptures will not be something you recite, but something you experience. A lot of the sermons I preach are not premeditated; but rather upon opening the Word, by the mercy of God, the Holy Spirit decodes the Scriptures to me and causes me to prophesy. Many who know me are amazed at what I share, but it is not I, it is the power of the Holy Spirit. The beautiful thing is that the Holy Spirit is available to all who are available to Him.
When the anointing of the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you begin to prophesy, you will be transformed. God will give you a new heart to believe His Word and to show forth signs and wonders. The Holy Spirit will direct you concerning the work you are doing for God. It is your duty to follow obediently. For the Bible says that when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, do as occasion serves you because God is with you.
Prayer Points:
Is the Holy Spirit upon you? You can only receive the anointing after you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. Confess and forsake your sins; then come to Jesus and say, “Dear Lord Jesus, write my name in the book of life. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Forgive my sins and bless me with your Holy Spirit.” He has said whosoever cometh to Him, He will not refuse. No matter your history, God is able to cause salvation to abound unto you.
God will pour into your life the anointing of the Holy Spirit that will change you and make you a new person.
Living God, I pray that the Spirit of the Lord will come upon us that we will begin to prophesy; that we will have new hearts and be transformed into a new people, doing and saying things that will amaze even ourselves. I pray we will have the boldness and obedience to do as occasion serves because God is with us. Be magnified O Lord in our lives today in Jesus’ name. Amen.
